Quentin Tarantino Returns to Bookshelves with a Second Novel

Quentin Tarantino is venturing back into the literary world, once again focusing on Cliff Booth, one of the most iconic figures from his cinematic universe. His new novel, “The Adventures of Cliff Booth”, will hit Italian shelves courtesy of La nave di Teseo on December 8, 2026, alongside its US and UK editions.

The book delves into the tale of “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth”, a new chapter centered on the character who was pivotal in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” This work continues the interplay between film and literature that Tarantino began by transforming his 2019 movie into a novel, expanding on characters, situations, and backstories beyond what was seen on screen.

This time, the action unfolds in 1977 Hollywood. Cliff Booth, portrayed by Brad Pitt in the film, remains on the fringes of the movie industry, offering his unique “clandestine services” to friends and acquaintances dealing with issues that conventional methods can't solve.

The new project will also have a dual existence in literature and film. The movie about Booth's further adventures is set to premiere in IMAX theaters on November 25, and will be available exclusively on Netflix starting December 23. The novel's release is strategically placed between these dates, reinforcing the blend of page and screen that has become increasingly vital in Tarantino's work.

The previous “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” was a significant success in bookstores, reaching the top of the New York Times bestseller list. The film also earned Brad Pitt an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

With “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” Tarantino seems poised to use literature not just as a film transcription, but as an independent space to shift perspectives, delve into episodes, and broaden the story's scope. This approach, previously tested with his last novel, allows the director-author to explore the mythology of Hollywood that has always fueled his imagination through different means.

In recent years, writing has taken on an increasingly significant role in Tarantino's work. Besides “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” published in Italy by La nave di Teseo in 2021, the director also penned “Cinema Speculation”, released in Italy in 2023: a personal and critical journey through 1970s American cinema, filled with memories, analysis, and cinephile passion.
