World Cup 2034. Saudi Arabia bids to host 48 nations

At a ceremony held in Paris by the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), Saudi Arabia officially bid to host the 2034 World Cup. The bid was presented by an official delegation led by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Sport and President of the Kingdom’s Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and the President of the Saudi Football Federation, Yasser Al-Mashal, as well as two children from the Saudi football regional training centres.

The slogan chosen is ‘Growing. Together’, ’Growing. Together’, which sums up Growing People. (Growing People) Together. (Together – Growing Football. Together. (Together. – Growing Connections. (Together. (Together.) The logo consists of intertwined ribbons, forming the number 34, which stands for the year of the Cup, now in its 25th year. Their colours are meant to reflect: the amber of the desert; the green of the oases; the bright red of the coral reef of the Red Sea; the lavender representing wild flowers; the golden yellow of dawn, marking a new beginning.

The last World Cup was in 2022 in Qatar (with 32 teams), but before we get to 2034 two more will be held (with 48 participating nations) organised, however, by more host countries. In 2026 Canada, Mexico and the United States, in 2030 Morocco, Portugal and Spain but (for the centenary edition) matches will also be played in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The Rias World Cup, however, would be the first 48-team World Cup organised in a single country.
