This morning, multiple drones were spotted flying over Copenhagen, prompting police to seal off the area surrounding the United States Embassy.
Copenhagen police have officially announced the closure of Dag Hammarskjölds Allé, the street in the Østerbro district where the US Embassy is located, advising drivers to find alternative routes. Authorities are currently investigating a "suspicious event," though they have not yet disclosed its nature or confirmed any connection to the drone sightings.
A witness present at the scene told Adnkronos: "Everything is shut down, schools and buildings are evacuated, and helicopters are flying overhead."
This news comes at a sensitive time for Copenhagen. Today and tomorrow, September 18 and 19, the Danish capital is hosting the NATO Military Committee conference, attended by the Defense Chiefs of the Alliance countries. A large temporary airspace restriction has been established over much of the city and the island of Amager, prohibiting drone flights without written police authorization.
Yesterday, Danish police reported charging two individuals in separate incidents for flying drones within the restricted zone. There is currently no official indication of any link between those incidents and today's events near the US Embassy.
